FIRST EDITION of the first classification of gliomatous tumors of the central nervous system. "This monograph is significant in the history of neurology since it represents the first serious attempt to classify gliomatous tumors of the central nervous system on a histological basis correlated with the life history of each type of growth. The analysis herein offered has become the basis of most subsequent classifications of tumors of the glioma group" (Cushing).

Leinenband. First Edition! This translation is based upon a corrected and extended text and bibliography which are not yet available in English. The illustrations are for the most part from the same plates as in the English edition but more successfully reproduced; a few substitutions have been made. There is also added a section on histological methods. The English edition was based upon on a total of 412 verified tumors. In the authors' introduction to the German edition statistics are given based on 690 verified cases. New terms, such as "glioblastoma multiforme" (for "spongioblastoma multifomre"), have been adopted in the translation, and the "neuroblastomas" were dropped from the classification, there other terminological changes in the text.
