About This Item

Pelham Books. Very Good/Very Good. 1974. Hard Cover. Dimensions: 24.6 x 19.2 x 2 cm 0720706521 Dust jacket complete except price clipped. Original cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks.Illustrated 120 pages clean and tight. Most of us at some time or another have toyed with the idea of trying our hand at clay modelling or stone carving, only to be deterred by the fear of finding them too technically demanding, or expensive. In her book, Clay Models and Stone Carving, Irene Dancyger shows that neither objection need prevent even the rankest amateur from literally 'having a bash.' With the help and advice of practising sculptors, Miss Dancyger leads the readers step by step through the basic principles, and pitfalls, of both arts. Outlay, tools and studio requirements are kept to a minimum, processes outlined and explained in clear, easy-to-follow terms. Both modellers and carvers are offered sound practical advice rather than 'arty' intellectual theorising. Clay modellers are told how to begin by modelling simple, basic shapes; progress to portrait modelling, casting, and the more complex intricacies of modelling in the round and modelling in relief. Stone carving is similarly treated, types and characteristics of various stone discussed and working methods explained. Finally both modellers and carvers are advised how to present their finished works for display and exhibition. Sculpture students and would-be students will, in fact, find everything within this book to help them grasp and master the essentials of these most satisfying and fascinating of the visual arts. .
