Webster & Skinner, 1803. First Edition Later Printing. . Hardcover. Good. The Clerk's Magazine 3rd edition 1803 Printed by Webster & Skinner, 1803 3rd edition Hardback in good condition for its age. Text is clean and unmarked, binding tight, tanning of pages due to paper used and age, there is crack front hinge however binding is not loose nor is cover loose. Cover shows signs of wear in agreement with its age , leather is rubbed, has small tear top spine but would rate acceptable overall, owners name inside cover. So what is the Clerk's Magazine? It was a legal booklet for use by clerks in the various business's in the United States at the time. The title page states: "A Valuable Assistant To Every Man: Or The American Clerk's Magazine. Containing The Most Useful And Necessary Forms Of Writings, Which Commonly Occur Between Man And Man, Under The Names Of Acquittances, Affidavits, Agreements, Assignments, Awards, Bargains, Bills, Bonds, Certificates, Complaints, Conveyances, Covenants, Declarations, Deeds, Feoffment, Fines And Recovery, Gifts And Grants, Indentures, Leases, Lease And Release, Letters Of Attorney, Mortgages, Notes, Petitions, Pleas, Probate Matters, Receipts, Releases, Sales, Surrenders, Surveys, Wills, Writs, &c. And Other Instruments calculated for the use of the citizens of the United States also, various forms of indictments and inquisitions to which are added The Constitution of the United States and the State of New York. Quite a mouthful. A nice piece of early American Business History, it als contains the number of inhabitants in each of the United States as well as the counties of New York for the years 1771,1786,1791 and 1801. Charts, schedules, form letters, Acts of Congress and several pages of ads. Clerk's Magazine is 309 pages the rest is appx 20 additional pages.
