About This Item
(n. p.), (n. d.). Limited Edition. No binding. Near fine. Gill, Eric. No. 4 of 10, numbered and signed by Eric Gill. The Golden Cockerel Press published an edition of Chaucer's collection of lyric narratives, "The Canterbury Tales", featuring wood engravings by Eric Gill (1882-1940); Gill designed initial capitals to begin each tale, and borders fill the work throughout.
This print, a proof print of "The Clerk's Tale" (P656) on laid paper, has one of Gill's classically sensual figures perched in a tree, with an initial capital S that would begin the tale; the print is signed in pencil "Eric G" below the engraving, with the limitation number also in his hand.
___DESCRIPTION: Thin cream laid paper, top edge untrimmed, printed in black; leaf (including margins) 7.75" by 11", engraving 5.25" by 8", in an edition of 10, this number 4, numbered and signed by Eric Gill.
___CONDITION: Near fine, clean overall with a few very faint foxing marks to lower margin, some light creasing around the edges.
___CITATION: Skelton P656.
___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard shipping charge does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
