About This Item
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1961. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. This is a stated first edition. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, showing no marks or wear. The blue and brown covers are fresh, with just a touch of wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but is otherwise in excellent condition, with minor wear. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: John Dryden, a young graduate student, unexpectedly recieves a job offer from a Midwestern university, at a very good salary indeed, cataloguing the university's McNeill papers. Since McNeill was a modern poet, and Dryden's specialty is the 17th century, he hesitates -- briefly -- before accepting the offer. On arrival, he finds out that McNeill was a much-disliked man, and that his suicide might actually have been a murder.
