Dr. Tullis was Physician in Chief and Chairman, Department of Medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School, in addition to other assignments. Dr. Chao, who contributed chapters 2 (Normal Platelets) and 7 (Calcium Metabolism in Clotting and Hemostasis), was Adjunct Professor of Biology at Boston University, and also associated with the New England Deaconess. For Section I - The Physiology and Biochemistry of Normal Clottiing and Hemostasis - The chapter headings are Historical Background; Normal Platelets; Vascular and Humoral Factors in Hemostasis; Chemical Properties and Interactions of Purified Clotting Components; and Clinical Implications of Normal Clotting and Hemostasis. For Section II - Defects of Clotting and Hemostasis - the are: Abnormalities of the Cellular, Humoral and Vascular Factors of Hemostasis; Calcium Metabolism in Clotting and Hemostasis; First and Second Stage Clotting Defects; and Third Stage Clotting Defects. For Section III - Clinical Disorders of Clotting and Hemostasis - they are: Qualitative and Quantitative Platelet Disorders; Clinical Management of the Primary Acquired Thrombocytopenias; van Willebrand's Disease; The Hemphilias; Acquired Hypoprothrombinemia in the Coagulent Chop Suey of Cirrhosis; and General Principles of Emergent Management of Life-threatening Hermmorrhage. For Section IV - Hypercoaggulability and Thrombosis - they are: HypeRcoagulability; The Principles and Management of Thrombosis; and The Use and Abuse of Coagulants, Anticoagulants and Anti-Thrombotic Agents. Section V contains a single chapter, Methods. 572 glossy pages, with tables, figures, and two Addenda, Glossary and Index; plus xvi pages prefatory matter. Boards are clean and strong; marker strike-outs of prior owner's name on front and rear pastedowns, and on title page; text is clean and strong.
