A reference source for the life of Hernando Colon, son of Christopher Colon/Columbus, with a focus on the challenges he faced in defending his family's legacy. This volume gives some of the earliest published details of the life of Hernando supported by the inclusion of 8 transcribed documents, including Hernando's defence of his brother's (Diego's) rights to titles and income following his father's death; details relative to the conception Hernando had for his library (the "Biblioteca Hernandia"); and the text of Hernando's will.
Navarrete's second chapter to this volume concerns the life and activities of Bartolome Colon (brother of Christopher Columbus) who played a sometimes important and independent role in the voyages of discovery and settlement associated with his brother. Also included are extracts from a file formed at the request of Bartolome as a result of his imprisonment by Francisco de Bobadilla who was an energetic political opponent of Christopher Columbus and who replaced Columbus as Governor of the West Indies, having him sent back to Spain in chains.
This volume is heavier than the average quoted in my store listings and, as consequence, the shipping cost will be higher than that quoted in my listing. Please contact me if you wish more details.
