About This Item
Faber and Faber, London., 1980. New completely revised edition, superseding those of 1960 and 1968. Edited by James A. Brigham. Octavo. 350 pages.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the title-page: ''Dear Peter - how much we owe you! All of us who depend on adventurous publishing for our very being think of you with affection and esteem. I am personally very proud to shake your hand. Larry Durrell - 1980''. It is hard to think of a more fulsome authorial inscription. The recipient is Peter Owen the renowned publisher of seven Nobel laureates. It is probable that the book was inscribed when Owen was preparing publication of a new edition of Durrell's translation of Pope Joan by Emmanuel Royidis.Fine in very near fine, slightly marked dustwrapper.
