About This Item

New York & London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, ( 1980 ). First, Limited Edition. Hardcover. fine/fine. 8vo, 622 pages, maroon cloth, in matching publisher's slipcase with printed top label ( case is scuffed on the rear panel)

Mississippi fiction. Eudora Welty was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1973. She was the first living author to be published in the Library of America series. She was recognized in 1992 for her lifetime contributions to the American short story with the Rea Award for the Short Story. BUT, the National Book Award was hers in 1983 for the first paperback (!) edition of this, THE COLLECTED SHORT STORIES OF EUDORA WELTY.

Synopsis

This collection includes all forty-one of Eudora Welty's published stories, as well as a preface written for this book by Ms. Welty herself. Some selections included in this book: "A Piece of News" "The Hitch-Hikers" "A Curtain of Green" "Death of a Traveling Salesman" "Powerhouse" "The Wide Net" "The Winds" "At the Landing" "No Place for You, My Love" "The Burning" (if this and "At the Landing" don't dispel the image of Eudora Welty as the harmless little Southern lady, nothing ever will) "The Bride of the Innisfallen" "Ladies in Spring" "Where Is the Voice Coming From?" "The Demonstrators"

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
