About This Item

Seattle and Chicago: n.p., 1930. Very good plus.. An artful set of photographs elegantly documenting (entirely from the air) a single plane flight aboard a Lockheed Super Electra from Seattle to Chicago. Robert Lea was an executive with Sperry Gyroscope Company, which provided guidance and navigation equipment to numerous aircraft industry companies, including Lockheed. An evocative and beautiful series - mainly of landscapes, but some of towns below - taken with a classic camera. From 9 3/4'' x 6 1/2'' to 7.0'' x 5.0''. 34 black and white photographs of various sizes, adhesive mounted recto only to 31 loose, stiff card pages. Additional page lacking photos, but with a detailed, autograph description by the photographer: "Set of photographs taken in a single day on flight from Seattle Bay 8am to Chicago arriving late evening during early 1930's on Lockheed. Picture taken thru the window with one of the first Leica's in this country. Brought me from Germany by Tom Morgan. Some of these were later displayed by Northwest Air Lines. A set of enlargements kind like these was presented to the President of Northwest Air Lines. Robert B. Lea. Bundled Dec. 1952." Instances of handling wear, rubbing to images, otherwise clean and well preserved.
