About This Item

Published by the author as a part work issued every few months and Dedicated, by Permission, to the Society of Antiquities of Newcastle on Tyne., 1820. Soft cover. Very Good. Parts 1-3 of 4. Containing 50 engravings of Coats of Arms, and several wood-cut embellishments of curious remains of antiquity in the Church of St Nicholas. 24.5 x 16 cm. Grey printed card covers, spines of parts one and two frayed at top and tail. Tipped in list of subscribers. 78 (rather than 50, as called for) engraved armorial plates, rather haphazardly numbered. 40 pages per part. Very good and clean. Inscribed in ink at the top of each part: From Mrs Bewicke, Close House, to her sister Mrs Swinburne, ---(Indecipherable)---- Hall. Both these families are old established families in the district, St Nicholas Church containing several Bewicke monuments. Close House still exists as a Boutique Hotel. Very scarce
