New York: Viking Press, 1953. Both volumes are 8vo size gray hardcovers with black title block and decorations on spine and front cover and red topstain Volume 1: A-K 676 pages with some black and white illustrations. Endpapers are color maps of the world. Spine is cocked, head and heel of spine and bottom corners are bumped. Top stain has a few light spots and there is shelfsoil to the bottom fore-edge. Pages 528/529 have been darkened by a newspaper clipping tucked inside. The clipping, which we've left in place, dated 1954, is about Thoreau. Several page tips are creased and there is a small abrasion on fep where sticker was removed. Volume 2: L-M pagination continues from first volume to page 1,398 with some black and white illustrations. Endpapers are color maps of the world. Spine is cocked, head and heel of spine and bottom corners are bumped. Top stain has a few light spots and there is shelfsoil to the bottom fore-edge. There is a one inch tear to front spine seam, one page has an impression from a paperclip and there is a small abrasion on fep where sticker was removed. Weighs more than 4 pounds, boxed. No extra shipping charges if sent via US Media Mail.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
