This is a 1653 1st edition facsimile copy of the classic fishing book, "THE COMPLEAT ANGLER - or, The Contemplative Man's Recreation" by Izaak Walton. 1966; Abercrombie & Fitch Library; New York. The book contains a few illustrations of fish, as well as a musical score. Smaller in size - the book measures 5 3/4" tall x 3 7/8" wide.

Condition:
Light soiling to the covers and spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Light staining at the top edge of the text block. The un-numbered page preceding page 1 has a half-quarter sized stain at the outer edge. Some very light foxing to the end papers and pastedowns. Page 169 has a small tear/piece missing at the outer edge (the text is unaffected). Overall the book is in Very Good- condition.

'The Compleat Angler' is the most famous book ever published in the literature of sport. It is also a work whose unique celebration of the English countryside has attracted readers around the world since it first appeared in 1653. Izaak Walton issued the final version of his beloved book in 1676. 'The Compleat Angler' is both a manual of instruction and a vision of society in harmony with nature. It guides the novice fisherman on how to catch and cook a variety of fish, on how to select and prepare the best bait and make artificial flies, and on the habits of freshwater fish. It promotes angling as a communal activity in which the bonds of friendship are forged through the shared experience of the natural world. Walton lived through turbulent times and found in nature the best salve for national tragedy and personal sorrow. -
