The first edition published by Gibbings in their Standard British Classics series and in a larger format than later reprints. A scarce edition. Signed Bumpus binding of blue morocco with gilt ruled edges and double-ruled dentelles; five gilt-ruled, raised bands to spine with titling, volume number and date of 1894 in compartments. All edges bright gilt. From the family library of author Maxwell Laurie (brother of the publisher, Thomas Werner Laurie) and his wife Marjorie (daughter of the governor of Burma, Sir Herbert Thirkell White) but without signatures or bookplates. Some wear to leather but an elegant and presentable set. Contents clean with foxing to eps, prelims and end matter of all volumes, and the pages where the ribbon marker is in Vols II & III. Vol. I's marker is detached. A handsome set of this scarce edition of Shelley's Poetical Works.
