There is a name printed on the front end paper. There are small tears on all pages which appear to be from the pages perhaps being stabbed several times with a sharp object. There is some artwork on the back end paper. The back cover is only attached by one thread. The cover has scuffing and edge wear. The spine is missing several portions. The title states, With an Atlas, however the preface clarifies that the atlas is a separate companion book. The companion book is not included with this offer..

A contemporary of Noah Webster, Joseph Emerson Worcester was a lexicographer who also worked on Webster's Dictionary, but published several dictionaries and other reference works as well. He and Webster engaged in what are now known as The Dictionary Wars, in which Webster slung accusations of plagiarism, while Worcester maintained that his work was his own.
