About This Item
Boston: Small, Maynard & Company, 1913. First Edition . Hardcover. First US edition, very good+ with no dust jacket. Slightly roughened area in a small patch on the front endpaper, green cloth is very slightly rubbed at extremities. Translated by Ellie Schleussner. A short intoductory Preface reprinted from a 1911 Berlin literary article states that this title is the last link in the chain of Strindberg's autobiographical novels. The novel "depicts the struggle of a highly intellectual man to free himself from the slavery of sexuality, and from a woman who is a typical representative of her sex.
