About This Item
London : Jonathan Cape, (1971). First edition in English. The first major collection of poetry by the Mexican Nobel Prize winner to be published in the British Isles - Paz at that time lecturing at Cambridge. Poems from his collections "Salamandra" (1958-1961) and "Ladera Este" (1962-1968), together with the stand-alone poems "Sun Stone" (1957) and "Blanco" (1966) - all given in parallel Spanish and English text versions - the translations by Paul Blackburn, Denise Levertov, Muriel Rukeyser, Charles Tomlinson and others, as well as Paz himself. Demy 8vo (23cm). [x],198pp. Original aubergine boards, blocked and lettered in gilt; slightly bruised at head; top edge a little spotted, but otherwise a very good copy in the Leigh Taylor dust-jacket - the jacket just a touch sunned, but with only the faintest signs of use and also very good.
