First Edition of her first book, which set the template for all her later social observations and feminist writings.
Based on her own experience of growing up in a convent, entering the secular world, swiftly marrying, becoming Diderot's mistress and creating a literary career, Puisieux treats on education, sexual inequality, appropriate attire, reading, running a household, meaningful conversations, broadening experiences, the constant struggles of marriage and the pleasures of books, music and imagination. She cautions against slander, envy, cruelty, deceit, jealousy and sexual predation.
In three years the Conseils had three reprints (France, England and Germany) and three translations (English 1750/1, German 1750 and Swedish 1751). In good condition, exlibris of A.A. Brölemann (1826-1904).
