Included notes on navigation, nautical vocabulary, and oddly, the Shakespeare authorship controversy. This wrapper edition likely constitutes a second issue. Bound in half blue gilt-ruled morocco with raised bands, spine ornaments, blue marbled paper covered boards. Overall a lovely copy. OCLC locates only one copy issued in wrappers; quite scarce thus.

First edition published in 1765 and there is no indication that this is a reprint. Inscribed by Col. James W. Mosteller, Jr. to Lt. Commander W.A. Mosteller. Volume I Near Fine. Volume II Very Good with upper outside corner of front board creased with corresponding light split to front pastedown. “Notes” volume with moderate scuffing to covers including 5” thin scrape across front board affecting only one letter. All three volumes with clean text and in sturdy bindings. Very well-preserved with gilt lettering on the Junks volumes almost bright as new.

This book is bound with leather covers and a cloth spine. There is a label on the front cover which is not readable. New endsheets have been added at some point in the book's long history, but the original endsheets and covers are present. There is a former owner's inscription on the original front endsheet. Pages are intact and the binding is tight. The book contains black & white drawings of muscles, bones, and bandages. There is an index for medicines and an extensive table of contents of body parts, diseases, syndromes, and treatments. Printed in the year 1846, the book itself is, in essence, a time capsule that portrays how medicine was practiced aboard an early nineteenth century sailing ship. This will make a wonderful addition to the library of the collector of medical memorabilia.

The English edition, an important collection of voyages, relating entirely to the discoveries made between South American and New Guinea. Folio. 77 pp. written in ink in a fine cursive hand, each section underlined in red, in a ledger notebook of 141 numbered pages, with detailed specifications for all aspects of shipbuilding, from construction and trigging to engines and cabins, etc. In a homemade binding of thick canvas surrounding the original ledger, the canvas stretched across the boards with interlocking twine stitching. Front cover with the title in MS on the canvas, front pastedown and final blank bearing calligraphic inscriptions of the name of the first owner: "Captain M.J. Daly" Manuscript record of the detailed specifications for the construction of an iron ship (length: 247 ft., gross tonnage: 1, 607) to be delivered to Port Glasgow "on or before Oct. 20, 1891". Paris: Chez De Hansy le jeune, 1774 A very good copy in newer full morocco binding with fold out map by Robert de Vaugondy. M. de Freville was a teacher, who wrote a variety of works, including for children. This book is notable in that it gives one of the first accounts in French of Cook's 1st voyage in the Endeavour, 1768-71. The bindings have raised bands and gilt titles and dates to spines. They are in near fine condition. The endpapers are marbled in a near match for the original marbling on the page edges. New blanks have been inserted at front and rear. Vol I: half title (giving the alternative 'Hydrographie...as the title); title page with 2 ink signatures across the lower half (the ink is visible to verso); Preface v-xlviii; fold out map; text with decorative headpiece and tailpieces pp 1-518; Index 519-522; errata.
