About This Item

New York: Burt / Blue Ribbon Books. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. The interior of the book is clean and tight. The paper has darkened somewhat, but there are no marks or damage. The red covers are clean, with light wear overall, and heavier wear and rubs at edges and corners. Sadly, there is no dust jacket. This is a tidy reading copy, but no more. Synopsis: A Philip Tolefree/Inspector Pierce mystey. "Two sets of footprints were the first clues Mr. Tolefree had to the Netherminster murder -- though he didn't realize their significance at the time. That evening he met the limping man who must have been responsible for one set. And within three hours he heard about the murder. The case was a puzzling one. There were, ti seemed, all sorts of queer people wandering around Netherminster. There were the lovely Frances Pitt, wife of the murdered man; Gorran, the dry lawyer; Noss, the sailor, whose memory was sometimes good and sometimes bad; Ashe, a little cockney who was quick with his legs and slow with his mind; and there was Hawker, the limping man, who admitted he was in love with Frances Pitt. All of these people, Inspector looked at with a baleful and puzzled eye. And Tolefree watched and listened to everything that passed.
