First Edition in book form. 8°, recent quarter calf, over machine-marbled boards, spine with raised bands in 5 compartments, gilt-lettered author in second compartment from head and title in fourth, gilt bands. Title page in red and black. First few leaves and last few quires browned. Tiny to small round wormhole in upper inner portions of final 22 leaves, never affecting text. A few small stains. Overall in good condition. (2 ll.), 244 pp., (1 blank l.). *** First edition in book form. The letters of Fradique Mendes had appeared in the Gazeta de noticias of Rio de Janeiro, 1888 and 1892, in O Repórter, Lisbon, 1888, in Revista de Portugal, Porto, 1889, and in Ilustração, Paris, 1890.*** Guerra da Cal, Lengua y estilo de Eça de Queiroz, Bibliografía queirociana, 354.
