About This Item

Two separate works uniformly bound in full red morocco. Professionally recased about eighty years ago. Large paper editions of the first editions, not to be compared to the many reissues in smaller format. 13 x 16 inches (33 x 41 cm). Volume I (1815) published by Havell, Tooley 326, colored frontispiece and 24 tissue-guarded aquatints . Volume II (1814) Tooley 457, colored frontispiece and 60 colored aquatints (sans tissues). Plates 6, 30, 34 and 49 are in the second state and "are the best issue, being superior both in drawing and engraving." (Tooley, p. 366) This volume has several of the text pages inexplicably inserted as though they were extra illustrations.
