First volume only of this 2-volume set on European costumes from the 16th to 18th centuries. This volume dedicated to the 16th century.
75 fine hand-colored lithographs and 151 pages of explanatory text in French (some explanations mismatched with the plates).
Exquisite costume plates of French, German, Italian, English nobles, courtiers, bourgeois, mercenaries, musicians and peasants of the 16th century, taken from contemporary paintings, manuscripts, tapestries and frescos.
Georges Duplessis (1834-1899) was a French art historian and curator of the Print Room of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
Edmond Lechevallier-Chevignard (1825-1902) was a French painter, engraver and illustrator. He was professor at the Ecole nationale superieure des Arts Decoratifs.
Condition: Binding solid, interior mostly clean except for some spotting to text and tissue-guards.
