The novel is an examination of conflicting worldviews among a group of intellectuals, some of whom were based on prominent artistic and literary figures including D. H. Lawrence, John Middleton Murray, and Augustus John. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt, covers ruled in blind, top edge red. With dust jacket. Bookplate of Virginia bibliophile and historian Christopher Clark Geest (b.1936). Cloth bright, scent of lingering cigarette smoke, faint splash marks to fore edge, affecting a few margins, contents unaffected and clean. A very good copy in like dust jacket, toning to spine, splash marks to spine and rear panel, couple of shallow chips and short closed tears, 3 cm closed tear at foot of rear panel, unclipped.
