Magazine in GOOD condition 'The Countryman' is a non-party, quarterly review and miscellany of Rural Life and Work. In this forty-year-old copy the then-current editor writes a eulogy of the publication's founder (and former editor), J W Roberston Scott; his childhood, his journalistic apprenticeship under W T Stead at Pall Mall Gazette, his secretaryship of the Scottish Farm Servants' Union, his interest in Japan, his books, the commencement of 'The Countryman', and his love of everything 'rural' (with photographs. IN THE SAME ISSUE: 'A Journey with Lady Anne' (Clifford) by George Brougham, to Skipton Castle, Pendragon Castle, Wensleydale and Appleby Castle (occupied by the Cliffords and their decsendants for 700 years).
