Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1909. First Thus. Decorated Cloth. Fine. Arthur I Keller. First edition thus, the first illustrated edition. White linen spine over blue paper covered boards ornately lettered in gilt and with a silhouette of a seated woman peeling fruit as seen through a gilt window casement. Beautifully illustrated throughout in color by Arthur I Keller. facsimile of the manuscript appears as the final few leaves. Charming poem of a Yankee courtship; it first appeared in the 1870s as part of "The Bigelow Papers". Lowell, who called this piece "The only attempt I ever made at anything like a pastoral, penned it as an inclusion at the end of the inrtoduction to the first series of The Bigelow Papers when his publisher informed him as the book was going to press that there was a blank page which needed to be filled. A bright, clean copy with a slight bump to the upper right corner.
