About This Item
London: Macmillan, 1891. First edition with Thomson’s illustrations; large paper copy, of which only 300 were printed; publisher’s cloth with paper spine label; minor foxing and cloth fading; nearly fine in the publisher’s printed dust jacket with a Thomson illustration on the front panel. A large chip extends from the top of the spine about halfway across the top of the front panel, affecting four letters of the title, otherwise in very good condition with minor darkening, chips and tears. This large paper issue is very uncommon, especially in the publisher’s binding; we have seen no other in dust jacket. Presumably, most of those large paper copies were finely bound by their buyers.
