Crazy Pavements, Nichols' fourth novel, is a satire of the 'Bright Young People', the circle of socialites in which Nichols himself moved. The story has much in common and is thought to have influenced Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies, published 3 years later. Crazy Pavements went through four impressions in its first year of publication.
