Description:
Philadelphia, PA: J. B. Lippincott (1949).. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Black cloth with gilt lettering to spine. 325 pp. Photos. Dust jacket has a few tiny tears. A clean, attractive copy. "There are here illuminating chapters on Indian art, dances and religions, on their law, the influence of their thinking on the thought of Europe. There are unforgettable insights into the minds of the Whites in their encounters with the Redman. One receives an impression of extraordinary vitality, of a people who have an inner strength which we have wasted against our better interests, but which still persists against all odds and is beginning, perhaps, to be understood and so used as a part of our American heritage.

Moose (i.e. Moose, Factory, Ont.): (J. Horden, Church Missionary Society Press), 1856. Two unbound, uncut, folded sheets, measuring approximately 16.5 cm x 13.5 cm when folded, [32 pages (31-32 blank)], containing 50 hymns in the Moose dialect of the Cree language in syllabic characters, translated by John Horden. Cream paper gently darkened with outer sheets lightly dust soiled, faint ghost of a paperclip outline to upper and lower sheets, very faint damp stain to lower gutter of second folded sheet, otherwise a fine unbound copy of a rare item. Horden sent the translation to England to be printed. On the next annual ship, instead of receiving printed books he received a printing press and types. This was printed on that press. See TPL 5710; Evans Cree 058.. First Edition. Fine.

Description:
Paris, Coblenz and London, 1841. Aquatint engraving by Hürlimann after Bodmer, state with date added to London imprint 'April 1th [sic.] 1841'. A fine full-length double portrait by Bodmer, composed from sketches made during the winter of 1833-1834 during the travelers sojourn at Fort Clark, on the banks of the upper Missouri River. On the left stands Sih-Chidä (`Yellow Feather') a young warrior who was fascinated by the work of the two foreigners. His portrait was carried out over three days in early December 1833. In it, he wears the beaded hair brows with long strings of dentalium shells and beads, a member of the Dog Society, the cluster of feathers at the back of his head may be an insignia of that group. Around his neck is draped a tippet of otter fur, the ends fringed with quill-wrapped leather. His heel-trailers are made of otter fur lined with red cloth and represent battle exploits. On the right is Mahchsi-Karehde (`Flying War Eagle'), who at just over six feet was the tallest of the…

Description:
Fine minus, unread book that is lightly crimped at top of spine, in a Fine minus jacket with a very light scratch and slight rubbing to back panel. This was a cheaply produced book and is fairly scarce in such nice condition. This novel was originally thought to be Carter’s autobiographically story of being an orphan raised by his Cherokee Indian grandparents. Carter claimed to be part Cherokee and was thought to be a cowboy drifter. However, he fooled his publisher and most of his readers with his fictional account. Carter was actually living a double life and had been an avid segregationist and a speech writer for Alabama Governor George Wallace. The 1992 story, The Real Education of Little Tree (published in Texas Monthly), covers the history of Carter (who was actually Asa Earl Carter) and his fake autobiography – a fascinating story that is stranger than fiction.

"In this book, real life photos are used to help young people feel more comfortable with interacting with other children and making new friends. A Note From Fred Rogers: A child's first visit with a pediatrician usually comes soon after birth. It may be months or even years later, though, that a child first shows fear about going to see a doctor. The worry of an injection or some other unfamiliar medical procedure can trigger that fear. It can also appear because another family member may be feeling medical anxieties. And, of course, new body awareness and needs for privacy develop naturally in children's early years, so all these feelings can make it very hard for them to let doctors investigate the workings of…

Editorial Review by From Library Journal: "Klein's editions of the Reference Encyclopedia have been the major source for listings of information on American Indian and Alaska Native groups for more than a decade. The first section of the book contains the source listings, presenting names, addresses, and often leaders of the tribal organizations (both federal and other) across the United States. The resource provides similar information for Canada. The second section is the bibliography, which contains citations for 4500 in-print titles. Separate lists by subject follow, and there is also a…
