New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1884. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Large 8vo 9" - 10. Scarce and valued First Edition exemplar of an important social history. Withdrawn from a public library with some but not a lot of usual markings thereof, including faint accession number at spine bottom, bookplate inside front flap, faint remains of ink-stamp at title page, check-out pocket inside rear flap. Forward cock to spine, sunning and toning to spine and board edges. Yet and still, solidly bound, gilt illustration to front cover still sharp, sun rays still radiating to front cover. A fine social history by the nineteenth-century American novelist George W. Cable, author of American novels set during the American Civil War in New Orleans. Influential also for Creole Days (1879) and The Grandissimes: A Story of Creole Life (1880). Roughly 50 illustrations, quite fine. ix, folding map, 2-320 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
