About This Item

Oxford: At the Clarendon Press. Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket. 1960. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. FINE Tan cloth-covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. In the original publisher's decorated dustjacket. The dustjacket is generally VG with some light foxing (light yellowy-browny spotting) and a few neatly closed edge tears. The base colour to the spine of the d/j is lightly 'sunned', but all lettering/titling is still very clear and bright. The dustjacket is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Very Good. The page fore-edges are very lightly 'toned' with age and with the odd spot, but overall this is an EXCELLENT, VERY CLEAN, TIGHT and BRIGHT copy. Internally a little light foxing to the endpapers and first blank, and with an odd edge spot here and there, but o/w ALL hinges tight and NO Inscriptions or other Marks. (xix) + 166 + 23 single-sided b/w illustrations of Engraved Gems. 172 b/w illustrations in the Text. Contents cover - Introduction; 1 - Ancient Glyptic. 2 - Seals of the Early Minoan Age and of the First Transitional Phase. 3 - The Middle Minoan Age and the Second Transitional Phase. 4 - The Late Minoan Age. 5 - Technique. 6 - The Influence of Cretan Seals Styles. Part 2. Catalogue of the Minoan Seals in the Ashmolean Collections. Select Bibliography. Index of Materials. Index of Proveniences. General Index. Motifs of Select Early Three-Sided Prism Beads. Plates 1 -23. " Minoan Seal-stones were the first objects of Aegean art to attract Sir Arthur Evans... It is most appropriate then that this, the first book in English devoted to this special field, should use the Ashmolean collection, which Evans did so much to create, as core material for a First survey..." . This book is overweight and for International buyers MAY require extra postage depending on your location. SEE IMAGES. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
