First edition thus, first impression (Folio Society, 1957). Featuring illustrations by Van Rossem and the Constance Garnett translation. Original pictorial cloth with red topstain. A fine copy, with the red topstain still bright and beautifully preserved, in a near fine dust jacket with a hint of rubbing to corners and a crease to bottom of lower panel. An excellent example of an early Folio Society production. Uncommon in such good condition.

Crime and Punishment is a novel by Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky that was first published in the literary journal The Russian Messenger in twelve monthly installments in 1866. It was later published in a single volume. It is the second of Dostoevsky's full-length novels after he returned from his exile in Siberia, and the first great novel of his mature period.
