About This Item
London: Longmans, Green, Reader, and Dyer, 1872. Leather. Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A new edition of this academic work detailing a selection of Lord Macaulay's interests, from Machiavelli to Frederick the Great. New edition. These critical and historical essays contributed to the Edinburgh Review at the time and were dedicated to Francis Jeffrey, who was a close friend of Macaulay's. Lord Macaulay provides the reader with an insight into his interests and reviews the activities of different historical figures, such as Lord Bacon and Lord Nugent. Written by Thomas Babington Macaulay, a British historian and Whig politician, who served as the Secretary at War and as the Paymaster General. Bound in full brown calf. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Joints starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Good
