Top edge of text block dampstained and a smaller bit of dampstain at the very top of fore-edge of the textblock (neither affecting page interiors). Pages show light thumbing. Dust jacket shows light edgewear and has a few small chips at spine ends; front panel is unevenly toned; general soiling; not price clipped; in clear archival sleeve. 254, [1] pages. 20 x 14 cm. A work decrying the dangers of war to civilization. Nichols examines various aspects of war and its opposition, including pacifism, disarmament, conscientious objection, global politics, regional conflicts, moneyed interests, the League of Nations, and the ultimate causes of military conflict. John Beverley Nichols (1898-1983) was an accomplished English writer, playwright, and public speaker. This book's original owner was George E. Lask, a well-known theater and stage manager in California, who had managed both Fischer's Theatre and the old Tivoli Theatre in San Francsico, as well as the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.
