Scarce, richly illustrated Cuban avant-garde poetry book.

The poems of Cuaderno de Poesia Negra are exemplifying the traditions of Afro-Cuban poetry, a subject Emilio Ballagas (1908-1954) studied in depth and later published two anthologies about the situation of Afro-American poetry and the economic and social conditions of Afro-Cubans.

Present copy is inscribed to Cuban composer and conductor of Spanish derivation, José Ardévol (1911-1981), the director of the Orquesta de Camara de La Habana at that time.

Cover and three illustrations by the Avant-Garde artist, Domingo Ravenet (1905-1969), who was one of the pioneers of modernist Cuban art.

The other illustrator of the book, Ernesto Gonzalez Puig (1913-1988) was a self-taught modernist painter.
