Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1939. Hardcover. 8vo. Dark blue cloth with gilt spine lettering, price-clipped dust jacket. xi, 310pp. Very good/very good. Jacket age toned on spine and edges, with 1" chip at foot of spine and corresponding fade to binding beneath; book otherwise near fine, with just a tad of age toning to endpapers, else tight and quite nice. Handsome first edition of this study in which (to cite jacket front flap) "the intellectual life of Anglo-Saxon England is re-examined and a new chapter is added to the history of Anglo-Saxon literature....
