Volume 1-The Sheriffs' Murder Cases: Initial volume in the Cumberland Mountain Trilogy, a series high-lighting life in the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky during the early and middle decades of the 20th century. Jacob Newton Herald, High Sheriff or Chief Deputy of Chinoe County from 1920-1945, is the trilogy's central character, and the accounts are in his own words, or as nearly so his granddaughter Jennifer coud copy down. Returning from war heavily decorated soldier in the mountains where he became involved in law enforcement sering as either Sheriff or Chiref Deputy for a quarter century (DJ in mylar in VG condition w/chips to heel)
Volume 2-The Sheriff of Frozen's Murder Cases: 2nd volume in the Cumberland Mountain Trilogy. X-library stamp on ffep. Jake would have been in jail in virtually any other division of Kentucky instead of serving as its cheif law enforcement agent. He did, however, find time to solve the occasional murder case, and it is on this wholly unexpected and improbable capacity the trilogy depends. Jake considers running for Sheriff in 1923 while being assailed by a series of difficulties, some of them quite baizarre. Violence from a near war in WV between union miners and coal company detectives threatens to spill over into chinoe...

Sheriff Hearld faced with an attempt by the coal camp bosses and their "Detetive Agency" to take over the county through the election process, makes his first run for office. His campaign efforts are compalicated by assassination attempts, the non-wedding of his sister Kate, the discovery that he has a child, and the need to mount a rescue mission in the Bluegrass.
