About This Item
Second edition (and first edition in this design) of the acclaimed novel by VanÄura (1891-1942), an early member of the DevÄtsil avant-garde group and co-formulator of the Poetism movement. Karel Teige and Otakar MrkviÄka began their intensive collaboration as book designers and also stage designers in 1924. Two publishing houses had a significant influence on them: they designed the first ten volumes of the Aventinum People's Library in its clearly constructivist form. Above all, however, it was the Odeon publishing house, with its publications by DevÄtsil members and of contemporary French literature, which became a forum for Czech avant-garde print design. Teige also designed the signet for the publishing house and was co-responsible for most of the books as a graphic designer until the 1930s.
In addition to the present normal edition, a special edition of 100 copies was published on Japon Banzai, of which copies 1-50 are signed by the author.
