About This Item

Hamburgi [i.e. Hamburg]: Apud C. Liebezeit et T.C. Felginer, 1719. [8], 248pp. Contemporary vellum, contrasting gilt-tooled morocco lettering-piece. Foot of spine with large (and rather unsightly) split, some marking, text significantly browned and spotted, with some old damp-staining to preliminaries, soiling to signatures K-L. Various later shelf-marks in manuscript (variously pencil and ink) to endpapers. The first separate edition of the first significant critical and inclusive numismatic bibliography. The Bibliotheca nummaria was composed by Dalmatian Benedictine monk and numismatist Anselmo Banduri (1671-1743), and edited by Johann Albert Fabricius. Arranged chronologically, it begins with what was then considered the first work on the subject: Huttichius of Mainz's study of Roman coinage (Strasbourg, 1525), and extends to near contemporary works published in the early eighteenth century. . First edition. Quarto.

Terms of Sale

Antiquates Ltd

Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
