NOT a library discard. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Clean and crisp -- apparently never read. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. 1992 First Edition in English. Illustrated with 16 pages of old photos. Complete with ADDENDA/ERRATA sheet, laid-in. A copy of his 1997 obituary is also laid-in. Bound in the original gilt-stamped maroon cloth. From the dust jacket: "When Hitler became Chancellor, [Zipper] hastened back to Vienna where he composed music for the underground cabarets of the day. In 1938, after the Anschluss, he was sent to Dachau, transferred to Buchenwald (1939) where his survival stories are remarkable. These stories include the formation at Dachau of a secret orchestra for which he conducted and composed music and gave clandestine concerts in an abandoned latrine… Throughout his remarkable journey, Zipper, a composer, conductor, concentration camp survivor, and educator, has maintained a spirit of hope and achievement which contradicts his experiences. This is a story of the triumph of human will and spirit and as such, is both inspiring and instructive." . First Edition in English. Hardcover. Fine condition/Fine dust jacket. 8vo. xiii, 308pp. + 16 pages of photos.
