About This Item

(ALVENG, DAG). Alveng, Dag. DAG ALVENG: NEW YORK - A NEAR UNIQUE COPY CONTAINING THIRTY TIPPED-IN SILVER GELATIN PHOTOGRAPHS. Signed and Numbered with Original Photographs. NP (Oslo, NORWAY): Self-Published, 1993. First Edition 1/20. Oblong 4to. Debossed Cloth Over Boards. Photography Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. np (64pp), 30 b&w silver gelatin photographs. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Self-published in 1993 by noted Oslo-based photographer Dag Alveng, "New York" features thirty beautiful 3 ¾ x 4 5/8" tipped-in black and white silver gelatin contact prints of double-exposed images of New York that give the appearance of street scenes being reflected in shop windows. The photographs have been mounted on heavy art paper and hand-bound by Bjorn's Bokbinderi of Roa, Norway in titled cloth-covered boards. In recent correspondence with the photographer about the book, Mr. Alveng shared that while "New York" was supposed to be an edition of twenty copies, far fewer were actually printed and bound, and that this is likely the only one in existence outside his studio. An internally bright, most handsome example of this stunning, near-unique edition NUMBERED (5/20), DATED "1993" AND SIGNED "Dag Alveng" in pencil on the recto of the rear leaf, as issued, showing a bit of minor wear and rubbing to its dark grey cloth covers. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
