With an excellent fore-edge painting of "View of Cambridge Showing St. John's College + 'The Backs'". Bound by Birdsall in full blue pebbled morocco with marbled endpapers, a.e.g., the spine with gilt titles and floral panel ornaments, double fillets on the covers. Presentation copy from Mrs. Charles Kingsley, 1890, signed on the half-title.
