A history of militant / socially progressive newspapers from the nation's founding through Labor, Abolitionist, and Women's Rights movements, the Socialist Press, and others, establishing The Daily Worker as heir to a noble lineage. Schappes was at the time imprisoned "a victim of the Rapp-Coudert witch-hunt," an attempt to purge Communist influences from New York's educational system.
