New York City hospital psychiatrist and author Dr. Frederic Wertham recounts the murder of a mother by her teen son, a crime discovered when a policeman outside a Lower East Side New York City small store sees the youth, Gino, in socks, no shoes, with blood on him, has just bought candy for his younger siblings "so they'll stop crying". The policeman goes with the youth to the crowded tenement apartment and finds the dying woman, and the crying children. The crime is bewildering. Dr. Wertham briefly introduces this work with the Greek legend of Orestes, tried for killing his mother, he said, because she had dishonored the family.
