About This Item

The First UK printing published by Chatto & Windus, London in 1973. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends. Light toning to the text-block otherwise internally clean. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. Light edge-wear at the spine ends with a little rubbing and loss. A small chip at the lower front flap fold. The wrapper is notoriously brittle and this is the best example that we have handled to date. The Alan E. Cober wrapper artwork is striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been inscribed on the title page by the author to fellow children s author Jill Paton-Walsh : 'For Jill, with love, Susan'. Striking B/W illustrations by Alan E. Cober. The very elusive second title in the acclaimed Dark is Rising series. Signed copies of this title rarely appear on the market. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Synopsis

On the Midwinter Day that is his eleventh birthday, Will Stanton discovers a special gift-- that he is the last of the Old Ones, immortals dedicated to keeping the world from domination by the forces of evil, the Dark. At once, he is plunged into a quest for the six magical Signs that will one day aid the Old Ones in the final battle between the Dark and the Light. And for the twelve days of Christmas, while the Dark is rising, life for Will is full of wonder, terror, and delight.
