Originally published in 1945, this takes place from 1867-1938. She begins with her childhood, discusses her marriage and parents and starvation during that time. Book Two details her experiences In Service with military officials. The Japanese came in 1895; she was with the Mohammedans and civil officials, but was again with her family in 1899. In this beautifully-written book she talks of one of her children's' marriage, then more children and grandchildren which give her the most joy. In 1937-1938 the Japanese come again, and the author leaves China, not knowing what becomes of Ning T'ai-t'ai. Includes index. Light wear on the edges, and a fine crease on the spine. The spine is sunned but tight, and there are some notes and underlining, in pencil, in a few chapters of this volume. Includes some photos in black & white. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall .
