About This Item

UK,12mo wraps,p/back,1st reprint.[Originally and first published by same publisher as a UK,12mo paperback Original,1st edn, earlier in 1974.This edn is the first reprint of that edn.The cover artwork differs from the 1st edn, with subject's framed colour portrait illustration on a yellow background,to front card cover for this issue.] Bright, crisp, clean,glossy,sharp-cornered colour pictorial artwork subject portrait to front card cover with black-outlined red lettered capitalised book title and other black capitalised lettered author's name, very lightly sunned/faded title lettering to yelow spine/backstrip - which has NO reading creases to it,rear cover with black+red lettered content precis/blurb.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges inevitably aged/toned but without further blemish; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - unread, other than my own collation.UK,12mo wraps,p/back 1st reprint, 7-161pp [paginated] includes 16 chapters,16pp subject contemporary b/w biographical photographs and 2 b/w facsimile document photographs (subject's birth and marriage certificates) in 1 block, between pp94/95,a Bowie chronology - Dec 19,1933 to Sept,1975; plus [unpaginated] author's potted biography with publisher's list of author's previous titles to verso, title page, acknowledgements with blank verso,a 2pp Preface, and to the rear,4pp blanks.
Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional for a book of it's age and nature, i.e an ephemeral p/back,and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the minor and minimal exterior faults described that prevent a higher grading.Despite them,it really is an exceptional copy for brightness and cleanliness.
This is the life story of the first pop superstar of the seventies: David Bowie.
It tells you of his childhood, his schooldays, his first groups, his friendships and romances,of how he nearly became a Buddhist monk.
It tells you of his liking for the music and writing of Anthony Newley, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop - of the times he dressed in all-black,the times he went scruffy.
It tells you of the family drama before he first became a pop star in 1969 with his song 'Space Oddity',and how he then blew his career, and retreated to Beckenham,Kent,to organise an arts laboratory.
It tells you how he married, kept on writing. . . and then returned two years later with his own style in pop music, that began the Bowie cult.It is. . . The David Bowie Story.
Much of the major part of the book is based on the author's own research and his own interviews with David Bowie,Marc Bolan,Mott the Hoople - and especially his good friend Kenneth Pitt, who was Bowie's manager for five years.
