About This Item
Methuen, London, 1932. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Various. 800 g; XXIV, 228, 8 pages, the last being a catalogue of books by the publisher, with the book illustrated with 60 black-and-white illustrations. In original green cloth over boards, with softening of the head and tail of the spine section and traces of flecking to the right-hand margin of the front board. Darkening of the top edge of the text block. Internally clean and free of any inscription. England had Bloomsbury, 100 years earlier France, Paris actually had the Romantics. Considered as an influence upon technique, Romanticism broke up the old artistic and literary forms, and invented new ones. Its writers introduced new words and especially new and eliminating adjectives -- which last, according to Alfred de Musset, is the chief contribution of Romanticism to the art of the author. -- Page XVI.
