Originally published in 1843. William Scrope's detailed account of the natural history and habits of the salmon as well as salmon fishing, with techniques and methods for fishers and sportsmen, anecdotes, and more. Illustrated with lithographs and wood engravings by L Haghe, T Landseer, and S Williams after paintings from Sir David Wilkie, Edwin Landseer, Charles Landseer, and more. Collated, complete with coloured frontispiece and twelve lithographic plates (three in colour), as well as wood engravings in text. William Scrope was an English sportsman and amateur artist. In the original publisher's half paper vellum binding over marbled boards, plain endpapers, titles in gilt to morocco spine label. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only. Tape marks to endpapers. Tape repair to verso front free endpaper. Previous ownership inscriptions to recto front blank leaves, RB Webster's library stamp to same leaf, half title, and recto rear front free endpaper, no further stamps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
