About This Item
Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1962. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First American edition ('first edition' stated). A very good copy in jacket. Barzun & Taylor #875 (inexplicably giving the publisher as 'Harper'): 'This English tale of horse racing shows how one should write to create suspense'. Few short tears, nicks, creases and rubbing to jacket; previous owner's ink signature and inscription on front free endpaper, with slight rubbing to same endpaper; slight internal browning to edges and endpapers; still a very serviceable copy of a scarce title - the authhor's first mystery novel, the beginning of a distinguished body of work in the genre. Reichl, Ernst (designer); 1 b/w Illustration (title page). 220 pages.
